Hi everyone! Helen here. Have you ever had one of those days when everything that can go wrong, does? Well, that was me last week when ChatGPT went down. It wasn’t just a blip; it was a full-scale disruption that impacted not just me, but many of us relying on AI tools to streamline our work.
So, there I was, gearing up to write a blog for a client and also get my Women Writing Forward newsletter out on time. Everything was going smoothly until ChatGPT decided to take an unscheduled break. First, it went down, then came back briefly, only to crash again. It felt like the entire AI world was on pause. I wasn’t the only one affected – many people switched to alternatives like Claude AI and Perplexity, which also struggled under the sudden influx of users.
Despite the outage, I could easily manage my client blog. Fortunately, I could still draft the outline and write it using my own words. But the newsletter? That was a different story. Normally, I rely heavily on AI to help format the newsletter, from summarising articles to crafting the perfect HTML layout. This time, without ChatGPT, I faced a choice: spend hours doing it manually or delay the newsletter by a day. As a busy single mom with a full-time job and a budding AI coaching business, the choice was clear – it wasn’t worth the extra time and stress.
You see, AI tools like ChatGPT are not just nice-to-haves; they are essential for maximising efficiency. They save me countless hours and help me juggle my responsibilities effectively. For instance, creating the Women Writing Forward newsletter usually involves selecting articles, summarising them, and then formatting everything nicely in HTML. With ChatGPT, I simply point my phone at the screen, and it copies the HTML format for me. This process, which could take hours manually, is reduced to mere minutes. That extra time means more moments spent with my daughter, more creativity in my work, and more energy to invest in my AI coaching business.
But it’s not just about efficiency. AI tools capture the essence of conversations accurately, ensuring that my content stays true to my voice. For example, I often use Otter to record my thoughts while on the go, especially during my walks in the rainy parks of North East London. Once recorded, I feed these notes into ChatGPT, which has been trained to understand and replicate my unique writing style. The result is almost indistinguishable from my own drafts.
This reliance on AI has transformed how I operate, making it possible to manage multiple roles without compromising on quality or efficiency. For us women entrepreneurs, leveraging AI tools is not just about keeping up; it’s about thriving in a competitive landscape. It’s about using technology to amplify our voices, streamline our workflows, and ultimately, to empower ourselves and our businesses.
So, did the ChatGPT outage affect you too? How did you cope? I’m curious to hear your stories and the strategies you used to navigate the disruption. Share your experiences in the comments below – let’s learn from each other and continue to grow stronger together!
Cheers, Helen
